I am here to inspire, prepare and empower you in a non-judgemental way to meet your personal feeding goals. I am an infant feeding expert. And together with my experience in postpartum education and care I will teach you the necessary skills to feed and care for your newborn(s). Getting coaching and guidance from a singular, qualified voice is impactful.
Lactation Consultation Options
As an IBCLC I am part of your health care team and have the ability to collaborate with your OB, Midwife, Pediatrician and other healthcare providers. Each option includes follow-up telephone, email and text support for 2 weeks. A transportation fee will be applied to visits outside of Davis.

In-home postpartum lactation consultation by a board certified lactation consultant (IBCLC) is charged a flat rate, so we can focus on resolving breastfeeding and feeding  challenges in a relaxed manner without worrying that distractions at home may lengthen the visit.

As an Aetna Specialist I will bill Aetna directly. A co-pay may be necessary at time of service.
For all other insurance I will give you a Superbill so that you can recover your costs.

Prenatal Breastfeeding/Newborn Care Class
This is open to all potencial adult caregivers of the newborn baby(ies). I especially encourage grandparents to attend because things have changed since they had you!  Topics covered: planning for breastfeeding, learn how to latch your baby, making milk, how to prevent pain and low supply, know when your baby is getting enough, navigating the hospital setting, baby's first days/weeks, trusting yourself - trusting your baby, safe environments to feed and care, review expectation vs reality, swaddling, answer ALL your lactation concerns and much, much more. If you would like I can take a peek at your nursery and baby gear to see if there are any potential hazards.

Consent Form
HIPPA
What Happens During a Postpartum Lactation Consult
  • A Consent Form must be filled out and returned before consult
  • Most in-home consults last 2 hours, sometimes a little less, sometimes longer.
  • Please make sure you eat before the lactation consultant arrives, so you are not hungry during the visit.  Please make sure not to tidy up before the LC arrives.  She’s there to see you and your baby(ies), not your home.
  • Take a detailed health history of you and your baby(ies)
  • Take a detailed history of the birth and breastfeeding experience
  • Assess your breast anatomy
  • Assess and weigh the baby(ies)
  • Get you and your baby(ies) together comfortably
  • Observe you and your baby(ies) breastfeeding or attempting to latch
  • Assist with refining breastfeeding technique and positioning
  • Gently assist non-latching babies to latch and breastfeed
  • If supplemental feedings are medically necessary I will teach you techniques that will support breastfeeding
  • Create a follow-up lactation/feeding care plan
  • Follow-up with you until feeding is on track
  • Because of my postpartum experience you will get additional instructions regarding newborn care such as swaddling, holding, reviewing baby signs and cues, understanding expectations vs reality, growth spurts and impact on feeding and sleep and so much more.

What About Using Insurance
Many insurance companies will reimburse for an IBCLC lactation consultation, especially if you are on a non-grandfathered PPO plan. I do ask for payment up-front via check, cash or credit card. I will give you a Superbill for lactation consultations and the combo class to help you recover full or partial costs per the ACA.  AAP Statement about covering breastfeeding expenses.

This Is More Than I Can Afford
The bond you build with your child with a pain-free breastfeeding relationship is priceless. Many parents agree that these services are worth every penny. When comparing the overall cost of breastfeeding to formula feeding your baby, formula costs $2500+ annually. Breastfeeding is free as long as there is not a medical need for supplementation. If you need breastfeeding help and do have financial challenges, please contact me.  There is almost always a way to work it out; such as a payment plan or a reduced rate.  You can use your credit card as payment too.  Please do not let finances deter you from reaching your breastfeeding goals.
